The Royal Belfast Golf Club Your Guide to Rooms & Facilities
Your Clubhouse. Use it. Your Clubhouse is more than the building you pass by to reach the first tee.
Everyday at Royal Belfast Not every visit needs a reason. Some of the best ones don’t. The Clubhouse is open for food and drink throughout the week — not just on competition days or for private events. Whether you are looking for a proper sit-down lunch, a coffee on the terrace, or simply a comfortable chair and a bit of peace, you will find it here. A few ideas to get you started: Friday evening drinks in the Herdman Room — a post-work pint with a view Saturday morning coffee on the terrace before or after your round A quiet Tuesday in the Baillie Room with a good book and no particular agenda A working lunch or informal meeting — the Lough Room is perfect for small groups who need a bit of privacy
It is one of the most beautiful and characterful spaces in the country — a Victorian mansion built in 1852, sitting above the course with views across Belfast Lough that stop people in their tracks. Extensively renovated in 2012 and lovingly maintained ever since, it has been named Best Clubhouse in Ulster by the Golfers Guide to Ireland. And it is yours. This guide is an invitation to use it — all of it, all year round. Not just on the days you play, and not just for big occasions. On a Tuesday lunchtime. On a Friday evening after work. On a summer afternoon on the terrace with a glass of rosé in hand. On a rainy morning when the course is quiet and the Herdman Room is warm and there is nowhere better to be. The rooms in this guide are named after the men and women who founded this Club and shaped Irish golf. Each one is different. Each one has a story. All of them are waiting for you. ‘ The best clubs are not just played. They are lived in. Tracey Preshaw Hospitality & Marketing Manager
The Clubhouse Our stunning Clubhouse was built in 1852 as a private residence for the Mulholland family — and it was, for a time, home to Archibald Kirker, the Belfast whiskey merchant whose name lives on today in our own exclusive Kirker Shamrock whiskey. The house carries that domestic warmth still: these are rooms designed to be lived in, not just passed through. Extensively renovated in 2012, the Clubhouse combines original Victorian grandeur — the breathtaking rotunda ceiling, the ornate plasterwork, the antique furniture — with the comfort and warmth you would expect from a Club that has been welcoming people for nearly 150 years.
Bringing family or friends? Members are always welcome to bring guests to the Clubhouse for lunch, dinner or drinks — you don’t need to be playing golf. If you would like to book a table telephone the bar on 028 9042 8165 option 5, or to book a private event contact Tracey — house@royalbelfast.com or 028 9042 8165 option 4.
The Social Calendar Throughout the year, the Club runs a programme of Member events — themed evenings, seasonal celebrations, guest speaker lunches, and social occasions that give you another reason to come in, see familiar faces, and meet new ones. Keep an eye on Member email communications for upcoming events. There is always something on the horizon. The Club is a community — and communities are built in rooms like these, with people who share a love of this extraordinary place.
Member Privilege All function rooms at Royal Belfast are available to Members free of charge for private events.
Winner of Best Clubhouse in Ulster, Golfers Guide to Ireland.
The Herdman Room The heartbeat of the Clubhouse. Pull up a chair.
Named after Henry Herdman, Honorary Secretary and former Captain of the Club — and one of the grandees of Irish golf at its inception, a founding member of both Royal Portrush and Royal County Down. The Herdman Room is where Royal Belfast Members gather after their rounds. Over the past decade, this casual bar has evolved into the true heart of Club life—buzzing with the kind of easy, unhurried conversation that happens when people who love the same place sit down together. You will almost certainly know someone in here, and if you don’t, you soon will. Come in after your round. Come in on a Friday evening when you haven’t played. Come in on a winter afternoon when the fire is on and the Lough is doing something spectacular outside.
Usage: Members casual drinks & dining day-to-day
Dress Code: Casual / golf attire

The Baillie Room The finest views deserve our finest attire .
Named after George L Baillie — a teacher from Musselburgh, Scotland, who along with Captain John Harrison and Thomas Sinclair blazed the trail for Irish golf when they established the Belfast Golf Club at Kinnegar in 1881 — the Baillie Room is the formal bar of the Clubhouse. It is a dual-aspect room, which means the light changes throughout the day and the views shift from fairway to lough and back again. With the sun streaming in through the tall windows, there is nowhere better in the Club to simply sit and appreciate where you are. Perfect for a pre-dinner drink, a small gathering, or simply an hour of quiet with something good in your glass. No hot food is served in the Baillie Room, which keeps it exactly what it should be — a place for drinks and conversation.
Usage: Pre-dinner drinks / drinks receptions / informal meetings
Dress Code: Formal - jacket & tie
Capacity: 30 seated No hot food served in the Baillie Room
The McGee Room The most beautiful view. Book it for someone you want to impress.
Miss Catherine Elisabeth McGee was the founder of Ladies Golf at Royal Belfast and the first Honorary Secretary of the Ladies Branch — a pioneering figure in a Club, the room named in her honour is one of the jewels of the Clubhouse. Intimate, beautifully proportioned, and with floor-to-ceiling windows looking out across the course and Belfast Lough, the McGee Room is the kind of space that makes people stop talking and simply look. The views are that good. On a clear day, you can see for miles across the Lough — and as the sun sets over the course below, the view is something you will not easily forget. Available for day-to-day dining and bookable for private occasions. If you are planning a special lunch — a birthday, an anniversary, a celebration that deserves a proper setting — this is the room to request.
Usage: Day-to-day dining / private dining by request
Dress Code: Casual or formal as requested
Capacity: 20 seated (private dining 12 minimum)
The Harrison Room A notch above casual, a step below formal.
Named after Captain John Harrison, one of the founding Members who donated ground at Kinnegar to allow the Club to come into being in 1881, the Harrison Room is the everyday dining room of the Clubhouse. For those seeking a quieter, more refined atmosphere than the bar, the Harrison Room offers the perfect middle ground. Smart-casual dining where you’re welcome in your golf attire, with a seasonal bistro menu prepared fresh by our kitchen team. Proper food, generous portions, thoughtfully prepared. Bi-fold doors connect the Harrison to the Sinclair Room next door, making it flexible for larger gatherings when needed.
Usage: Day-to-day dining / private parties by request
Dress Code: Casual / golf attire or formal as requested
Capacity: 40 seated
The Sinclair Room Where the house used to dance. Where the Club celebrates today.
Named in honour of The Rt. Hon. Thomas Sinclair — Royal Belfast’s very first Captain, and one of the three men who founded the Club in 1881 — the Sinclair Room was, when this house was a private residence, the ballroom. Stand in it now and you can still feel that sense of occasion: the high ceilings, the chandeliers, the proportions that were designed for people to gather and celebrate. Today it is our main formal dining room, and it remains the room for the big occasions — prize-givings, annual dinners, weddings, gala lunches, landmark celebrations. It seats up to 100 for a dinner and has a grandeur that makes every event feel genuinely special. If you are planning something significant — a significant birthday, a family celebra tion, a milestone occasion that deserves a room that matches the moment — the Sinclair Room is where it belongs.
Usage: Large private events / corporate occasions Dress Code: Formal (jacket & tie) — may be relaxed by request
Capacity: 40 - 100 seated
The Colt Room Named after the man who designed the course. Comes with the views to prove it.
Harry S Colt designed our course — and over 300 other great layouts worldwide, including some of the most celebrated in the game. The room that bears his name commands panoramic views across the course, the Lough and beyond: on a good day, it is as fine a room to be in as any in Northern Ireland. The Colt Room has its own bar and is one of the most flexible spaces in the Clubhouse. It can be configured theatre-style for presentations, set up as a U-shaped meeting table for business use, or simply opened up for drinks and casual dining with the view as the backdrop. A wall-mounted UHD screen with HDMI connection handles presentations with ease.
Usage: Business meetings / presentations / drinks receptions / sporting events
Dress Code: Casual / golf attire
Capacity: 20 - 30 for meetings — 40 for bar/ dining
It is also the best room in the house to watch that big sporting event.
The Lough Room Small. Quiet. The view could stop your heart.
The Hadden Room The room where decisions are made. And dinner afterwards. Named after Max Hadden, Past President of Royal Belfast, the Hadden Room is built around one of the finest pieces of furniture in the Clubhouse — a long antique boardroom table that has hosted Club Council meetings and Ladies Committee discussions for more years than anyone can quite remember. It is a serious room, with a quiet authority to it. The historical photographs, the deep navy walls, the polished table — it has the feel of a place where things matter. And yet it transforms entirely into a warm, intimate private dining space when the occasion calls for it. Available for business meetings and private dining for smaller groups. If you would like to host a working lunch, a confidential meeting, or a private dinner in a room with genuine character, the Hadden Room is the one to ask for.
Usage: Business meetings / private dining by request Dress Code: Casual or formal as requested Capacity: 20 seated (private dining 12 minimum)

Ideal for a private meeting or a small working group that needs focus and privacy.
Usage: Business meetings / private dining by request Dress Code: Casual or formal as request ed Capacity: 10 seated (one large circular table)
The Terrace The best seat in the house. No roof required.
When the weather is fine — and even sometimes when it is not — the Terrace is where you want to be. Sunny, sheltered, and looking out over the lower part of the course and Belfast Lough beyond, it is the kind of outdoor space other clubs can only envy — naturally beautiful, historically rich, and effortlessly elegant. In summer it is one of the most beautiful places to sit in Northern Ireland. Full stop. The Terrace expands our bar and dining capacity considerably in the warmer months and is open for casual drinks and dining whenever the weather allows. It cannot be booked — it is a first come, first-served invitation to sit outside, look at the Lough, and remember exactly why you joined this Club.
Usage: Day-to-day drinks and casual dining / outdoor events
Dress Code: Casual / golf attire
Capacity: 40 seated Tables cannot be booked on the Terrace
Food & Drink Our Food & Drink Philosophy:
Booking a Private Occasion Members are encouraged to use the Clubhouse for private celebrations, family occasions, business entertaining and any other gathering that deserves a special setting. We are experienced at making these occasions work and genuinely love doing it. Whatever you have in mind — a landmark birthday, an anniversary dinner, an informal gathering of friends, a business lunch, a charity afternoon tea, a post-golf celebration — talk to us. We will find the right room, put together the right menu, and make sure the day is exactly what you were hoping for .
Years of listening to our Members have shaped our approach. You’ve told us what matters: fresh, seasonal ingredients; generous, satisfying portions; familiar favourites with the occasional surprise; and wine that complements without complication. We source locally where possible, cook to order, and change our menu with the seasons. Our wine list, curated in partnership with local wine merchant Robert Neill Wine, offers quality and variety without pretension. The result? Honest cooking, warm hospitality, and the kind of dining experience that brings Members back — for food that tastes right and feels like home.
