Strategic Context & Site Location The subject lands are located to the south of Mallusk, which forms part of the Metropolitan Area of Newtownabbey as defined within the Draft Belfast Metropolitan Area Plan (dBMAP) 2015. Newtownabbey has a population of approximately 67,599 (Census 2021 data). Mallusk is situated approximately 7.5 miles north west of Belfast City Centre and within easy access to the M2 Motorway, including a range of public transport links. It boasts good road connections to a number of other main settlements such as Antrim, Larne and Ballymena. The site is shown within a Strategic Context at Figure 1. The RDS 2035 identifies Newtownabbey as being part of the Belfast Gateway and located within a key transport corridor to the north of the city. The development proposal relates specifically to lands at no.4 and 8 Grange Lane and to the west of Millbridge, Hydepark Road, to the south of Hydepark Manor and c.40m east of Hydepark Mews, Mallusk. (see Figure 2 ). The subject site measures approximately 7.09Ha (c. 17.52acres) and comprises nos. 4 and 8 Grange Lane and vacant lands between the dwellings mentioned and Millbridge ‘Phase 2’ development. Construction is currently underway to the east of the site for Mill Bridge ‘Phase 2’ development for a total of 55 no. dwellings, which was approved in June 2022 (Planning Reference: LA03/2021/0548/F). The site itself is sustainably located within walking/cycling distance of a number of bus stops, employment opportunities, local facilities and amenities. A review has been undertaken within the Newtownabbey area, as shown within Figure 3 .
