Partnership Opportunities

Polo is called the Sport of Kings and for centuries it has drawn royalty to its ranks. In the minds of many, the game has always belonged to the rich, the famous, and the privileged few. But there’s more to the sport than the glamorous world that surrounds it. Sport of Kings

It began as a war game more than 2,000 years ago and is one of the oldest team sports in history. Most of us in Ireland today know very little about it, but there was a time in the 1920’s and 30s when polo would draw a crowd of 20,000 spectators at the All Ireland Polo Cup. The event was hosted at the historic All Ireland Polo Club in Phoenix Park Dublin which at the time was bigger than Gaelic, Rugby and Football!

Polo is a growing sport here in Ireland and further afield with more and more competitors and spectators getting involved. We have some incredible Irish players and ponies; involvement in the sport is growing at a rapid pace.

History of Success

The Glenpatrick Polo Team was founded by Ian Megahey in 2019; who’s family has had ties to the Equestrian World for many years. Megahey first tried his hand at polo in 2018 and was bitten by the polo bug very quickly thereafter! He formed the Glenpatrick Polo Team a year later and the team have seen growing success ever since, with back-to-back Pakistan Cup wins in 2021 and 2022. The Glenpatrick Polo Team won the prestigious accolade of ‘Team of the Year’ at the Irish Polo Awards in 2022. They were the most successful team of that season winning 4 prestigious tournaments including the coveted Pakistan Cup hosted in the Phoenix Park.

Building Team to Represent Ireland 2024

Glenpatrick’s success has been building since its formation; with Megahey putting the team in place and strategically directing the tournament’s played.

2023 is set to be the most ambitious season yet with a step up in level required to enter the Gerald Balding Trophy in Cirencester, England. The highest level of play in Ireland is 4 Goal, meaning each player in the team has to collectively have a handicap of 4. The Gerald Balding Trophy is an 8 Goal tournament, a considerable step up for the team. Ian Megahey and the Glenpatrick Team will also be representing Ireland in the United States in July 2023 at Newport Polo Club. An exciting tournament with thousands of spectators in attendance.

Along with these International tournaments, the Glenpatrick Polo Team will be aiming to play on the Irish Circuit throughout the season, hopefully retaining their title at the Pakistan Cup and the Best Team of the Year in Ireland. A long term goal is to enter the Glenpatrick Polo Team to represent Ireland at the European Championship’s hosted in Spain in 2024. With your support this could be possible! And early sponsors will gain first refusal to sponsor the Team for this very large tournament.
