SCHOOLS’ CUP CLIMAX COMING SOON…
RBAI and Campbell College have secured their places in the 2016 Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Cup Final after defeating Ballymena Academy and Dalriada respectively at Kingspan Stadium this week.
Campbell guaranteed its place in the 17th March final with a compelling win over a defiant but ultimately underpowered Dalriada by 24 points to three on Tuesday afternoon. Tries from Jamie McCartney, Jack Howard, Johnny Haldane and Jack Berry-Glendinning racked up the points for the East Belfast side, with two of the four converted by Malcom Corry. As always, the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Cup Final will be a decadent affair with widespread support for both teams as they battle out a Belfast derby for the coveted Schools’ Cup Trophy and bragging rights for years to come.
Holders RBAI progressed to a second successive Schools’ Cup Final after a thoroughly entertaining 27-19 defeat of a combative and hugely inventive Ballymena Academy in the first semi-final which took place on Monday 29th February. It was the winners’ ability to be clinical in the vital areas of the pitch that proved decisive in the end and earned them a place in the St. Patrick’s Day showpiece. David Whitten, Conor Field, Michael Lowry and Mark Keane all landed tries for the men in black and yellow, with James Hume slotting two conversions from four and an impressive 30m penalty to secure the victory.
