Ulster Rugby v Edinburgh

What advice would you give someone who wants to start volunteering? It’s so much fun and you get lots of enjoyment out of it. However, always be aware of other responsibilities – time management and communication is key if you can’t make your role. Volunteering has opened doors for me, both in rugby and outside of the sport. It’s given me the confidence to realise there are no barriers to what you can achieve. If you put your mind to it and work hard, you will be able to do it. Do you have to come from a Rugby background or need Rugby knowledge to volunteer with a rugby club? No, I am a rugby fan, but didn’t know the specifics of Tag rugby and how it would need to be adapted to suit the abilities and needs of those who attend our sessions. I have learnt this as I have gone along and through attending training courses. Plus, as coaches we all share best practice, as there is some trial and error to see what works. What has been the highlight of your volunteering? Seeing those children who started with very little ability and watching them grow over the years. They now have the confidence to direct others on the pitch and help the younger players improve their skills. Ulster Rugby is always keen to hear from enthusiastic volunteers who are willing to give up their time to enhance the sport.
