PATRICK KELLY CEng MIMechE HSEQ Director Patrick has been with PDE for 13 years, starting as Project Engineer, quickly rising to the positions of Senior Engineer, Associate Director and ultimately Director. For the past 10 years Patrick has led the engineering team for one of PDE’s key accounts, BP Oil. Patrick also has a strong knowledge and expansive experience of health, safety and environmental management. Hence he has assumed the role of HSEQ champion within PDE.

Robin assumed the role of Operations Director in 2013, affording him the opportunity to oversee all of the company’s projects at an Operational level whilst still lending some of the vast experience he has gained over the years, as needed.

Electrical Engineer with over 25 years’ experience. His career with PDE began over 19 years ago, progressing from Project Engineer through to his current position of Company Director. Ken has overall responsibility for the Finance function of the business. Whilst often occupied with various corporate management duties, Ken still has a very ‘hands-on’ approach when it comes to supporting and managing various project teams.

JTI GALLAHER PDE were commissioned to assist with the relocation of the Tobacco Expansion plant at the JTI factory located in Ballymena, Northern Ireland to a new factory in Lodz, Poland. The Project comprised Project management, M&E Design and Process Automation. The project team were also onsite in Poland to assist with the commissioning of the plant. SEAGATE TECHNOLOGY PDE were appointed as Design Engineer for the upgrade of the Chemical Distribution facilities for Seagate Technologies. The upgrade project comprised facilities for off-loading, conditioning and distributing chemicals used in the substrate process for the manufacture of computer hard drive discs. The upgrade provided for 8 different chemicals, including several grades of nickel solution, zinc, alkali soak, actane buffer and acid etch solution. Storage tanks were installed and a distribution pipeline connected to the twenty work stations. ALTRO PDE were appointed Principal Designer for the company’s extensive M&E Rationalisation Project at the company’s recently renovated factory, located in Letchworth Garden City, Hertfordshire. The purpose of the project was to de-clutter the factory by the removal of redundant steelwork and redundant services piping by the rationalisation of the entire services pipework system. The project scope included both Outline and Detail Design for the range of engineering disciplines, including Mechanical/Structural, Electrical and Civil.

BALCAS The project involved the replacement of fossil fuel steam boilers with solid biomass (wood pellet) steam boilers (circa 4MW) into 4 distilleries in Scotland. PDE had an overall coordinating role and were responsible for the wood pellet storage system and all connecting services between the new boiler and the existing distillery. This included a series of energy meters which are used to report usage to OFGEM.

KERRY FOODS Following the installation of new industrial catering equipment within the company’s food manufacturing facility, the existing thermal oil pipework (2No 2” Lines & 1No 2.5” Lines, Carbon Steel) had to the rerouted from the existing Boiler House. This involved the removal of redundant sections of pipework & supports from the oven equipment and the subsequent installation of all new pipework and supports.

UM STORAGE PDE were commissioned to provide overall engineering resource for the company’s Belfast storage terminal, comprising six main tanks. Engineering services include external tank inspections, site reviews and maintenance & improvement forward planning.

ENISCA Subcontracted by Enisca Browne, PDE were commissioned to complete the detailed MEICA design of two new pumping stations for the UK’s largest water-only supplier, Affinity Water. The project comprised six booster pumps (ranging in size from 110Kw to 560 Kw) and all associated pipework.

DARD The purpose of this project was to provide an automation scheme for the motorised operation of all Rivers Agency vertical lift sluice gates operating on the Lower River Bann. The project comprised 13 sluice gates in 3 sets, across 3 individual locations. PDE were appointed Designer and Principal Contractor for the project. As built documentation, O&M manuals, Staff Training and On-going maintenance were also included in the project.

ENISCA BROWNE PDE were subcontracted by Enisca Browne to complete the detailed design for the construction and construction management of 2 UV Disinfection Plants for Affinity Water, the UK’s largest water-only supplier.

AES KILROOT In association with Scotts Electrical Services, PDE were Engineering Design Consultants for the UK’s largest battery storage project in the UK, installing a 10MW Battery Storage system at Kilroot Power Station. PDE’s role comprised Principal Contractor and CDM Co-ordinator, responsible for overall Project Management, Mechanical Design, co-ordination of the various services and provision of final documentation

BELFAST POWER, EVERMORE ENERGY PDE are currently working with Belfast Power Ltd, a division of Evermore Energy, reference the development of a new state of the art 400MW Combined Cycle Gas Turbine Power Station located in Belfast Harbour Industrial Estate. The Belfast Power Plant will be based on the world class Siemens SCC- 800 Combined cycle power plant and may help mark an era in low carbon energy generation in Northern Ireland. BELFAST HEALTH & SOCIAL CARE TRUST PDE were commissioned by the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust (BHSCT) to carry out a high level study on the potential installation of a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at 4 hospitals within the Trust. The purpose of the study was to explore the technology available, the challenges, Pros and Cons and the opportunities & incentives of large battery energy storage.

BP OIL UK BP Oil (UK) has been a valued client of PDE’s since the company’s inception in 1989. Throughout this time we have undertaken in excess of 900 different projects for the company across multiple facilities in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland. The scope of projects undertaken is vast, ranging from simple P&ID updates, through complete gantry upgrades, storage tank refurbishments and the provision of a resident engineer for over 15 years.

LSS The 84,000 tonne- capacity oil storage terminal located in Co L’Derry, Northern Ireland was the first oil terminal of its size to be constructed in the UK and Ireland in the preceding few decades. PDE designed and managed the project in its entirety – from concept to commissioning. Originally a brown field site, the facility took over 2 years to develop, opening for commercial business in 2005.

TOP OIL TOP Oil Ltd is a long-standing client of PDE and have been engaged as their Engineering Design Consultants on a range of projects over the last 10 years. The purpose of this particular project was to upgrade the client’s fire-fighting systems within its storage and distribution terminal in Dublin Port. The terminal facilities consist of two storage tank farms (one Seveso Top Tier, the other Lower Tier), product transfer systems and road tanker loading bays.

ATLANTIC FUEL SUPPLY COMPANY (AFSC) The facility was one of the first post Buncefield oil terminals of its size to be constructed in the UK and Ireland. Originally a brownfield site, the facility took two and a half years to develop, opening for commercial business in October 2010. The Foynes terminal boasts a storage capacity of 65k tonnes in 16 storage tanks with 5 bottom loading gantries and 1 top loading gantry for vehicle loading, including a Vapour Recovery System.

FLOGAS PDE has an ongoing relationship with Flogas NI and more recently, with Flogas Ireland, to provide various engineering support services. Contracted services include, Engineering support for breakdown/faults with instrumentation or electrical works, preparation of annual engineering budgets, modifications to PLC and SCADA software, Explosion Protection Documentation and Project engineering design, procurement, construction and commissioning for any new projects. NATIONAL OIL RESERVES AGENCY (NORA) A current project within the PDE portfolio – this particular project relates to the conversion of an ex Power Station tank farm (circa 140,000m3 storage) and Jetty to be used for strategic storage for the National Oil Reserves Agency in Ireland. The project includes a complete jetty top refurbishment with new pipework and loading arm installation. PDE are acting as Engineering design consultants for the preliminary design / FEED study and as the client’s engineer during the construction stages.

SHELL BITUMEN PDE have successfully completed projects at multiple Shell Bitumen plants, including Stanlow, Belfast and Dublin. Projects included the greenfield construction of a new Polymer Modified Bitumen Terminal at Stanlow (comprising new tank storage, complete with heating coils, mixing equipment, insulation, radar tank gauging and full terminal PLC control systems), the Design & Build of a new PMB plant in Dublin and the upgrade of existing facilities at Belfast, including all associated instrumentation and PLC control systems. EASTHAM REFINERY PDE were commissioned to upgrade the existing facilities of Eastham Refinery, located in the Wirral Peninsula, beside the Manchester Ship Canal. The project was extensive and included the installation of a heat exchanger on the main refinery, new storage tanks complete with heating coils, mixing equipment & insulation and a heating system for export to the adjacent blending facility. The upgrade also extended to the gantry loading system, including HMI and PLC systems.

NYNAS PDE have undertaken projects for Nynas at both their Eastham and Dundee facilities. Projects included the upgrade of the company’s Special Products Plant, comprising top loading gantry system, soap blending & chemical storage, waste emulsion recovery & blending facility, emulsion cooling system and hot water & steam heating systems.
