“These are the moments you look forward to,” he said. “One of the highlights of playing international football is to test yourself against the top nations. “People might write us off but it’s an exciting proposition to see where you are compared to the big hitters of world football.” Northern Ireland approach tonight’s showdown with maximum points from their opening four qualifiers, thanks to home and away wins over Belarus and Estonia. Peacock-Farrell said: “It’s the start we needed given we face Germany and the Netherlands in our last four games. “We had a meeting at the start of the campaign on how we could provide the best route for us to get through to the next stage and we split the group up into two sections. “We had Estonia and Belarus home and away in our first four games and that was the first group we needed to take care of. That was our first target and we achieved it. “We’ve maximum points and we’ve put ourselves in a really good position to challenge. It means there’s something riding on these games.” On swapping Championship side Leeds United for Premier League team Burnley last month Peacock-Farrell accepts he’ll have to be patient behind first choice keeper Nick Pope and former England number one Joe Hart. But the challenge and motivation is there to grow as a player at Turf Moor and establish himself as a Premier League goalkeeper. “It’s a great opportunity to work alongside and learn from top class goalkeepers and it was an opportunity I couldn’t turn down,” he said. “The aim is obviously to challenge for the number one spot, but I know it might be a slow burner. I know I’ve got to perform and work hard to earn that opportunity.”
