Northern Ireland v Austria
While Lewis has quickly established himself as a regular starter at left-back following Chris Brunt’s recent retirement, it is easy to forget he’s still only 20. His first ever senior game for the Canaries, who are currently riding high in the Championship, came less than a year ago in a 2-1 league defeat to Brentford. In the intervening period he has played 39 times for his club and warmed to the challenge of playing on the international stage for Michael O’Neill. “Michael has been great and I really like him as a manager,” he said. “He’s been really good since I came in. It’s little things like pulling me to the side sometimes to just have a chat so we get to know each other more.

“Speaking to some of my team-mates back at Norwich, it’s not always like that with some other national teams, but with Northern Ireland you’re very at ease. “You’re obviously there to do a job, but you are made to feel very comfortable and if you need any help you can ask. Michael has created a very good environment.” Reflecting on his whirlwind year since making his Canaries debut 332 days ago, Lewis smiled: “It’s been a bit crazy - but good. I’m taking each game as it comes, however I’m enjoying it.” An added bonus is Norwich are currently lying top of the Championship and Lewis, who was voted the English Football League's Young Player of the Month back in September, is hopeful the Canaries can go on to have a big say in the race for promotion to the Premier League. “We had a rocky start, however since then we’ve kicked on," he said. "From a team and personal point of view, I’m really happy with how the season is going. “We’ve had some really good performances and the lads are looking really good. It’s a really long season in the Championship and it's very early days, but hopefully we can keep racking up the points.”
