DRAMA & MUSIC
ensure that everyone feels a sense of ownership within the choirs. ‘How can I keep from singing?’, which was performed by the Girls’ Choir, and ‘Wayfaring Stranger’, sung by the Chamber Choir, are two of my absolute favourites, but there has never been a piece I have not loved, or eventually come to love. I am so thankful to Miss Foster, Mr Arnold, and Mr Sandford for their hard work to make the Music Department the supportive, exciting, and inclusive environment that it is, and for all the friends and memories I have made over the years. I know I will miss music in Grosvenor so much, which is a testament to the amazing people involved. Eva Royal 14TG2 Musical Success – News in brief! GROSVENOR CHORALE ‘COME AND SING’ Three members of Grosvenor’s Year 12 – GCSE Music students Neve Calderwood, Amelie Gibney and Henry McCrea, recently enjoyed attending and participating in a ‘Come and Sing’ rehearsal-style evening, organised by the Grosvenor Chorale. The event saw those in attendance sing through the AS Music Sacred Works. Many thanks to Edward Craig, Director of the Grosvenor Chorale and former Grosvenor pupil, for organising this most enjoyable and worthwhile evening.
solo by Eva Royal (Year 14) and accompanied by flute soloist Harry Douglas (former pupil). It was particularly heartening to see so many alumni and members of the wider Grosvenor community participating in the Choir and congregation. The service provided a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with former friends and colleagues, and to share in the festive spirit. The Carol Service remains a highlight of the school’s busy festive calendar. Congratulations to all who contributed to making the evening such a memorable, uplifting, and joyous occasion. 80TH ANNIVERSARY SPRING CONCERT IN THE ULSTER HALL On Tuesday 25 March, the annual Spring Concert moved to the iconic venue of the Ulster Hall for a spectacular evening enjoyed by almost 700 current and past members of the Grosvenor community. There were performances from the Orchestra, Grosvenor Singers, Flute Ensemble, Brass Ensemble, Chamber Choir, Guitar Club, Boys’ Choir, String Ensemble, Girls’ Choir and the Jazz Band. We were also thrilled to welcome Renaissance Chamber Choir and Grosvenor Chorale to perform on the evening. The finale, featuring a medley from ‘Les Miserables’ and including all choirs, was a tremendous end to a wonderful night of entertainment. Well done to all involved on an amazing job! Thanks also to the many others who played their part in helping to create such a memorable evening. Music has been such a core aspect of my time in Grosvenor, and when I decided to be more committed to the department in Year 12 by joining the Chamber Choir, Orchestra and String Ensemble, I have never once regretted it. I have been able to build so many friendships, and my musical skills have improved so much over the years, such as my rudimentary piano skills becoming slightly less rudimentary. More importantly, my sightreading and sight singing skills have been honed, and I am much more confident in my ability to harmonise within a group and find and maintain my part. With the Music Department, I was afforded amazing opportunities such as performing in the Ulster Hall, St. Anne’s Cathedral and attending the National Youth Choir of Northern Ireland. Though all the groups I have been involved in are fabulous, Chamber Choir holds a special place in my heart. Singing is such a fun and therapeutic way to end a busy day of school, and Miss Foster has always taken on our opinions on pieces to HEAD GIRL EVA ROYAL REFLECTS ON HER MUSICAL JOURNEY AT GROSVENOR
