GIRLS’ CHOIR Throughout the year, the Senior Girls’ Choir convened during Friday morning registration under the direction of Miss Foster. The ensemble had the privilege of performing ‘Shephard’s Pipe Carol’ by John Rutter at the annual Carol Service. This performance was beautifully accompanied by Mr Arnold on the piano. At the Spring Concert, the choir presented ‘How Can I Keep from Singing?’ by Sarah Quartel, a deeply moving piece inspired by a poignant story, which added emotional depth to the performance. This was once again accompanied by Mr Arnold on the piano, with Miss Foster providing the musical director role. These musical experiences have been immensely rewarding, and it has been a pleasure to come together to refine and present such meaningful repertoire. We extend our sincere thanks to Miss Foster and Mr Arnold for their unwavering patience, expert guidance, and constant encouragement throughout the year. Joanna McCullagh 14TG3
Our next major engagement was the annual Grosvenor Carol Service, held in the magnificent setting of St Anne’s Cathedral. The choir dedicated considerable time and effort in preparation, from auditioning for solo parts to refining the repertoire for the evening. The performance showcased the exceptional talent within the group, and we were delighted to contribute to such a memorable occasion. Highlights included ‘O Magnum Mysterium’ by Morten Lauridsen, a much loved Latin composition among the pupil which resonated beautifully within the cathedral’s superb acoustics. In January, the choir performed during the School’s Open Days, held over two evenings. These performances, hosted in the Music Department, offered prospective families a glimpse into the musical life of Grosvenor. The repertoire featured well-known and emotive pieces such as ‘Fields of Gold’ arranged by Roger Emerson. A new addition to the Chamber Choir’s calendar in 2025 was an invitation to perform at the Agape Centre. This provided a valuable opportunity to present newly rehearsed repertoire and to share our music with a wider community. A particularly notable performance was ‘The Prayer’ by Mark Hayes, famously associated with Andrea Bocelli and Céline Dion. The culmination of the year, and arguably the most prestigious performance, was the 80th Anniversary Spring Concert, held in the esteemed Ulster Hall. This large-scale event brought together many members of the school community, all of whom contributed generously to its success. The Chamber Choir rose to the occasion with great dedication, preparing a fresh selection of repertoire, including favourites such as ‘Wayfaring Stranger’ by Craig Courtney and ‘By Night’ by Elaine Hagenberg. These pieces represented the pinnacle of our musical achievements this year, and we are deeply grateful to have concluded such a remarkable season on a high note, thanks in no small part to the unwavering support and leadership of Miss Foster.
