SINCERE THANKS TO THE MUSIC TEAM THAT MAKES IT HAPPEN! We are very grateful to the dedicated team of professional and talented self-employed music tutors who deliver Instrumental, Singing and Music Theory on a weekly basis in the Music Department.
This year, Mr Sandford returned to conduct the orchestra, guiding us towards our 80 th Anniversary Spring Concert performance. The repertoire for this year included the ‘Suite from The Planets’ and ‘Opening Night’, both of which were highly enjoyable to perform. While certain challenges arose throughout the preparation process, Mr Sandford consistently brought out the best in the orchestra, which was reflected in our performance at the Spring Concert. Once again, we had the honour of opening the evening’s programme, delivering a memorable musical experience. Rehearsals were conducted each Thursday afternoon following the conclusion of the school day, providing an opportunity to unwind while refining our musical skills. This year also marked my first time leading the orchestra, privilege that allowed me to collaborate with an outstanding group of musicians. Participation in the orchestra enables members to develop essential ensemble playing and performance skills, which can only be strengthened through the challenges of group music-making. Personally, my sight-reading ability was tested and significantly improved, alongside my capacity to listen to the orchestra in its entirety to ensure a well-balanced blend of sound. Over the past two years, performing with the orchestra has been immensely enjoyable, and the opportunity to lead has been an invaluable experience. As I prepare to depart, I shall undoubtedly miss both the orchestra and all those involved. Special recognition must be given to Mr Sandford for his unwavering dedication to the ensemble, his commitment to excellence, and his ongoing inspiration to its members. Additionally, sincere appreciation is extended to Ms Foster, whose exceptional organisation and unwavering support have been instrumental in shaping the orchestra into what it is today.
