THE GROSVENOR JOURNEY
Year 8 Delamont Trip Delamont Outdoor Education Centre, Killyleagh
After we had lunch (which was DELICIOUS), we got dressed and Nathan got soaked, it was as if he had jumped into a pool, but he had accidentally turned the shower on. After that fiasco, we put our lifejackets on, got on the bus and made our way to Tollymore Forest Park, a place full of forests and streams. We split into different groups. My group went into the stream right away! It was as cold as a freezer, but we persevered. We all had to join hands and make our way up the stream, which was tricky as there were many slippery stones, big and small, scattered on the underwater pathway to the top. We also did, randomly, some crawling through tight spaces. There were many tunnels, pipes and bridges dispersed across Tollymore. We all took it in turns to crawl through big, medium and small holes; some were very easy holes to squirm through, but others were more complicated than others. Before leaving a truly great experience at Tollymore, we made sure to plunge into the chilly reservoir. We couldn’t say our final goodbyes to Delamont without going into the eye-catching park! There were slides, swings and more spectacular pieces of equipment to go on! It was a brilliant way to say our farewells. We made our way to our humble abodes, the sun setting behind the clouds and the memories of chaos, challenges and cheeriness staying with us like a
Grosvenor Grammar School is one of the most welcoming schools I’ve ever seen. But the way they welcome the Year 8 pupils is truly spectacular. When I first heard about the Year 8 Delamont Trip, I was jumping with excitement. The thought of learning more about the people around me that would soon be called my form class AND doing awesome activities made butterflies start racing in my stomach! The way we were informed about the teambuilding exercises and activities made me as giddy as a puppy with two tails. Each day for the next few weeks, I was anticipating the trip, curious to find out more about the strangers that I spend each day with. And then the day came, I was sitting on the bus, contemplating about what was going to come later, but I knew, deep down, it would be AMAZING! As soon as we got to Delamont, we got straight into the teambuilding games! As a bunch of kids that had barely even met each other, I think that we did quite well. But one game was quite tricky; we all had to get into a line from oldest to youngest (based on birthdays). Seems easy enough, right? Just ask everyone, ‘Oh! When is your birthday?’ or ‘June is down there!’ but not in this game. The twist was… we couldn’t talk. This made it very hard for us. We eventually got through it together and had a lot of fun! We did some other games, and I felt like I knew loads more about the people in my class already! We also did some more activities like, archery and rock climbing which strengthened our bonds with each other, making us a very close class!
