CLUBS AND SOCIETIES
The Volleyball Club at Grosvenor is a relatively new club available to pupils in Years 12, 13 and 14. We started a year ago when I was just in Year 13. Starting off with only six to eight people a week, we slowly grew into a group of about 12 to 16 of us by the start of 2024. We have always had a strong sense of community and friendship in volleyball; everyone is encouraged to get to know one another and to develop their skills. Since founding the club, I have been trying to help and guide others as to how to receive, set and spike the ball properly. The quality of the plays from the start of the year to now is night and day. Starting this year, Mrs Watt joined our coaching staff alongside the already experienced Miss Harte. With Mrs Watt’s previous experience playing volleyball, we were able to really excel in our skills and have longer and Volleyball Club
longer rallies. Our numbers also grew so much that we now have around 24 people who are coming to volleyball every single week; something I am forever thankful for. We’ve become a tightly knit group and I am going to miss everyone so much. Coming down on a Friday afternoon to play volleyball with some of the loveliest people I have met in Grosvenor has genuinely become my favourite part of the week. I trust in Adam Cullen, Tillie Hamilton and Hazel Bamford to lead the club into a bright future and to support its continued success. I also want to thank Mrs Watt and Miss Harte for their constant support and encouragement, as well as sacrificing their Friday afternoons to supervise us for all this time. Viva la Volleyball! an extra 50 pence. This creative addition quickly became a hit among students. Although this project was shorter in duration than the candy canes, it was equally successful. Finally, just in time for Mother’s Day, they sold charming hampers filled with treats like hot chocolate and jam, providing students with the perfect gift option at an affordable price. The team members unanimously agreed that this experience was both enjoyable and rewarding, culminating in a total profit of over £300, excluding the initial investments made by each member.
For the 2024/25 programme, our Year 13 pupils launched ‘BZAR Emporium’, a fresh and innovative approach to the traditional young entrepreneurs’ initiative.
With a commitment to high product quality, a successful marketing campaign and a consumer-focused business model that leverages social media for customer engagement, BZAR Emporium thrived this year. The dedicated and forward-thinking team demonstrated the vital qualities necessary for future business success, resulting in impressive profitability.
Firstly, with Christmas approaching, they offered a delightful range of candy cane flavours, with the classic peppermint being the standout favourite! This project proved to be the most demanding of the three, requiring effective time management and stock control to maximize profitability. In the end, the effort was well worth it. As February rolled in, the team
As a proud member of BZAR Emporium, I highly recommend this experience to any students interested in business, particularly those studying Business Studies. It’s a fantastic way to apply the skills learned in class while also gaining new insights that will enhance understanding of current and future topics. Best of luck to next year’s young entrepreneurs and I hope this exciting enrichment programme continues to thrive for many years to come. Jake McCaughey 13 TG4
