Scripture Union
Members of the Senior School SU Committee (from left to right): James Cusin, Rebekah Patterson, Joanna McCullagh (Vice President) Ben Smyth (Vice President), James Hughes (President), Owen Boyd, Emma Mackey, Olivia Davies, Sam Neill and Noah Burcombe
It has been another busy but very encouraging year for SU and it is wonderful to see an increasing number of pupils coming faithfully every Tuesday afternoon. Our thanks to the Senior School SU Committee, ably lead by James Hughes (President), Joanna McCullagh and Ben Smyth (Vice Presidents). This talented group organised and lead SU with enthusiasm every Tuesday afternoon and their energy never waned. It was a privilege and a pleasure to work alongside them. Quite simply SU would not have been the success it was without all their hard work. We wish those of the SU Committee in Year 14 every blessing as they head off on the next part of their journey. Our themes this year were The Parables and Living as a Christian. We would like to thank all our visiting speakers, who gave so generously of their time to come and take part in our SU meetings. They certainly challenged and encouraged us with what they had to say. An exciting new venture this year was our Prayer Space which ran for three days in April. Mrs Buchanan and a small, but dedicated, group of pupils transformed D116 into a quiet, contemplative space were pupils
and staff could come and participate in the activities aimed at encouraging self-reflection and prayer. The room was well used by both junior and senior pupils and due to the success of this event it is hoped that we will facilitate it again next year. We also enjoyed leading an SU Assembly Week. With Easter and particularly the cross on our minds, we took the opportunity to challenge pupils to examine what often preoccupies then and how they can lay down their burdens. The Christmas party with fun, games and food, as well as a short, thought-provoking talk from Miss McCourt, was enjoyed by all. June saw our now legendary Scripture Union weekend. The Exodus Centre in Coleraine was the venue again. The theme of the weekend was ‘Prayer’, and it was a wonderful time of fellowship and fun. We send our good wishes to those from our SU heading away on mission trips, either at home or further afield. We also look forward to seeing everyone back when SU commences again in the next school year. Mrs Caulfield, Mrs Buchanan, Miss McCourt and Mr Moffett
