CLUBS AND SOCIETIES

In July I had the privilege of travelling to Uganda with Abaana Ministries as part of an Umoja 25 team. As part of this team, I spent two weeks based between Kampala and Ngora, with the majority of the time spent completing a painting project and children’s work in Arise and Shine Education Centre. Whilst this work was exhausting, particularly in the Ugandan heat, it was immensely rewarding to see the improvement in the appearance both inside and outside of the school buildings as well as enjoying spending time telling bible stories, doing craft and games with enthusiastic, energetic and hugely appreciative pupils of all ages. The highlight for me was undoubtedly meeting James Walozi, a 15 year old pupil in Arise and Shine Education Centre who is sponsored through Abaana by Year 8 pupils from Grosvenor Grammar School. Throughout the week I got to know James well and I also spent an afternoon as a guest at his home, where I was welcomed like royalty by his mum, dad and siblings. Their appreciation for the generosity of Grosvenor Year 8 pupils was overwhelming and the difference this sponsorship is making to James and the entire family was very clear to see. The gifts of flour, sugar, oil, soap, gardening tools and a goat that I was able to present on behalf of the Year 8 pupils will make a difference to them both in the short term but also long term. James was thrilled with his football and stationery items but was particularly delighted with his Grosvenor PE kit which he happily modelled. PTBAS Ugandan style! My thanks to all the Grosvenor pupils who, over the Abaana Ministries Uganda 2025

past few years, have contributed to the sponsorship of James through their weekly charity collection. Please be assured that your kindness and generosity is hugely appreciated and absolutely life changing for James and his family. Mrs J Caulfield
