Girls Athletics Another season of Girls Athletics has drawn to a close, and once again, it has proven to be a tremendous success. With enthusiasm and energy radiating from all involved, this year saw a remarkable level of participation from students across all year groups. Over the two designated afternoons each week, the attendance numbers were consistently strong, a true testament to the growing interest and commitment of our girls to sport and physical activity. It was particularly encouraging to see so many returning athletes, as well as a wave of new faces eager to take part, try something different, and build confidence in their athletic abilities. The buzz around Girls Athletics has only grown, and this season was no exception, the positive atmosphere and camaraderie created by the students made each session feel like more than just training; it became a space of connection, growth, and shared achievement. One of the most rewarding aspects of the season was observing the clear development of the girls — not only in terms of physical fitness and skill, but also in attitude, teamwork, and personal growth. Across the various events, students demonstrated noticeable improvement in their technique and stamina. These moments of growth, whether big or small, have defined the spirit of this season and reflect the resilience, discipline and joy that Girls Athletics fosters in every participant. The dedicated support from Mrs Buchanan, Mrs Kirk, Mr McDowell, Mr Nelson and Mr Stevenson have also played a vital role in the success of this program. Their encouragement, patience and expertise helped to create an inclusive and motivating environment where every girl felt valued and challenged. As always, the emphasis was not solely on competition, but on participation, improvement, and enjoyment — ensuring that all students, regardless of experience level, had the chance to thrive. This focus helped reinforce the idea that athletics is not just about winning events or setting records, but about learning to push yourself, to collaborate with others, and to celebrate every achievement, no matter how small. Looking ahead, the momentum from this successful season sets a strong foundation for the future. With growing interest and consistently high attendance, it is clear that Girls Athletics is not only maintaining its strength — it’s thriving. We’re excited to continue building on this positive culture, encouraging even more girls to get involved, explore new events, and discover what they’re capable of. Congratulations to all who participated this season — your energy, effort, and enthusiasm have made it one to remember. At the beginning of May saw the annual District Championships for girls of all age groups. Up first, were the girls from Years 11 – 14, competing in the
Inter Senior Championships. This was an enjoyable day for all who completed and there were some notable performances from the day. In the senior 4x100m, the team consisting of Erin Cross, Jessie Black, Ocean Webster and Grace Wallace, won a silver medal in a time of 54.2 seconds. Three of the girls also then went straight from that into the 4x300m relay. The team consisted of Erin Cross, Jessie Black, Ocean Webster and Jade Archer won a superb bronze medal in a time of 3 minutes 41 seconds. and

The mini/minor and junior championships also proved to be a very successful day for girls’ athletics. Emily Hobbs won a superb individual gold medal in the Junior Girls 1200m walk with a time of 7 minutes 32 seconds. This achievement is incredible as Emily was competing as a Minor in the Junior walk. Grosvenor Grammar School currently has the two fastest girls over 100m within our district. This is an incredible achievement one of which the girls should be immensely proud. Iwinosa Erhabor won gold in a time of 14.4 seconds and Sophie Nesbitt coming a close second with a time of 14.6 seconds and claiming a great silver medal. Eva Lasini won gold in the mini girls Shot Put with throw of 6.82m. Each of these girls now progress to the Ulster Championships. We look with anticipation to see how the girls perform at the championships. We also look forward with excitement to future Athletics seasons to see how the girls develop and progress.
