SPORTS TEAMS
Cricket Report 2024 - 2025 The 2025 cricket season at Grosvenor Grammar School was a fantastic combination of teamwork, talent, and sporting spirit. With six boys’ teams competing across various competitions, cricket continues to thrive as a key part of the Grosvenor’s sporting calendar.
with the U12’s losing out to Lurgan Junior High School after a fine run of victories, the 2nd XI made the semi final of the 2nd XI Cup and the 1st XI who lost narrowly to Wallace High School in the Schools’ Plate semi-final. Special mention should also go to Josh Corbett and James Shields for representing Ulster Schools’. A special mention to the staff, Mr Winters, Mr Thompson, Mr Lendrum, Mr Hamilton, Mr McDowell and Mr Nelson, all of whom pour so much time, energy, commitment, and expertise into each team they take. There is no doubt that it is instrumental to the success of cricket in Grosvenor, and we trust that it is through this that the boys go on to join a local club and play for many years to come.
While every team entered their respective competitions with determination and high hopes, the unpredictable nature of tournament draws played a significant role in shaping outcomes. This year, unfortunately, the ‘luck of the draw’ was not in our favour, and several teams faced challenging paths early on. Nevertheless, the performances, commitment, and sportsmanship shown throughout the season remain a credit to all involved. Notable highlights came in the form of several semi-finals
1st XI Cricket
Back Row (L-R): T Barr, N Lamont, F Cross Middle Row (L-R): Dr F Vasey, C Wilson, B Ewart, W Marsh, Mr A White Front Row (L-R):
P McKittrick, A Fielding, J Shields (Captain), J Corbett, Z Braithwaite
The 1st XI had a settled feel and balance to it this year, with only Drew Parker and James Walker the two constants from the previous year having moved on to university life.
James Shields, as captain, led from the front with his performances behind the stumps, while shepherding the middle order with his calculated and aesthetically pleasing approach. Josh Corbett was his talented vice captain and led the bowling attack with great authority.
