The end of each season brings a sense of sadness. I must pay tribute to the girls in Year 14 who have given seven years to playing Hockey for Grosvenor Grammar School. Their commitment and dedication have been exemplary and each of them have left their marks in the history books. Lucy has been an exceptional captain this season, leading the 1st XI with confidence, determination, and unwavering positivity. From the very first match to the final whistle of the season, she consistently led from the front—setting the standard in both attitude and performance. On and off the pitch, Lucy has been a role model to every member of the squad, always encouraging those around her and offering guidance with maturity beyond her years. Her calm presence in high-pressure moments, combined with her drive to improve and push the team forward, has been a vital part of the group’s success. Whether rallying the team during tough matches or celebrating shared victories, Lucy’s leadership has never gone unnoticed. Her positive outlook, strong communication, and sheer passion for the game have left a lasting impression on the squad. She will be greatly missed, not only as a player but as an inspiring leader and teammate. Jade has been a fantastic vice-captain this season, playing a key role in helping the team gel both on and off the pitch. Her natural ability to bring people together created a strong sense of unity and teamwork throughout the squad. Always supportive and dependable, Jade stepped up whenever needed, showing great leadership and commitment. Her determination in every match was clear to see—she gave 100% effort, never backed down from a challenge, and showed a real desire to win. Emma has been an outstanding goalkeeper this season, playing a crucial role in the team’s success with her bravery and ever-growing confidence between the posts. From the very beginning of the season, she showed a strong willingness to learn and improve, and her development over the months has been truly impressive. Match after match, Emma pulled off vital saves and remained calm under pressure, giving her teammates the confidence to push forward. Beyond her performances on the pitch, she has also been a wonderful friend and teammate — always supportive, approachable, and a positive presence in the squad. Her kind nature and sense of humour helped bring the team closer together, and she will be remembered fondly for both her skill and spirit. Erin has been a truly valued member of the 1st XI this season, bringing constant fun and laughter to the squad

their place in the Super League quarter finals. The girls were drawn against a strong Dromore High School side in the quarter final and unfortunately lost 2-0. This was not the end of the season; however, it was time to turn our attention to the Senior Schools’ Cup. Over the next few weeks, the girls trained hard and continued to show development in all areas of their game. Unfortunately, the girls exited early from the Schools’ Cup and made their way into the Plate Competition. The 1st XI’s journey through the Senior Schools’ Plate this season has been nothing short of remarkable, showcasing their resilience, determination, and passion for the game at every stage. Their campaign began with a tense first-round clash against a well organised Antrim Grammar side. Despite dominating much of the possession, the team couldn’t quite find the breakthrough in normal time, and the match ended 0-0. However, when it came down to run-ins, the players held their nerve brilliantly, showing composure under pressure to edge out Antrim 1-0 and book their place in the next round. That narrow victory seemed to ignite a fresh spark in the squad as they prepared for a tough quarter-final against Limavady Grammar. The match was a physical and mental battle from start to finish, but the girls rose to the challenge with grit and determination. With excellent teamwork and sharp finishing, they came away with a hard-fought 2-0 win, underlining their growing confidence and unity. The semi-final against Belfast High School was a thrilling encounter and arguably their most intense game of the tournament. Both sides played with high intensity and attacking intent, but the 1st XI showed great maturity and calmness in key moments to secure a 2-1 victory. The match was full of end-to-end action, and the team had to dig deep, but they showed once again how far they had come as a group — defending with discipline, taking their chances, and never letting the pressure overwhelm them. That performance not only earned them a spot in the final but also reflected their journey throughout the season: a team of talented individuals who have grown into a tight-knit, hard-working, and fearless squad. Their reward was a much-anticipated final against Larne Grammar School. The final against Larne Grammar was an incredibly tight and hard-fought contest, with both teams giving their all from start to finish. Despite the 1-0 loss, every player on the 1st XI can hold their head high after a performance full of determination, heart, and resilience. The girls left everything on the pitch, defending bravely, working tirelessly, and creating chances until the very end. While the result didn’t go their way, the effort, teamwork, and spirit they showed throughout the match—and the entire competition— was outstanding. Each girl should be immensely proud of their journey and what they’ve achieved together.
