Excitement was high once again at the start of the season with almost 50 boys selecting hockey as their choice of sport. With only a few boys having played at a club previously and a handful who had played at primary school, it was evident that work was needed to turn us into a competitive outfit. We placed a big emphasis on the basic skills in early September. The group naturally formed into three groups; those with experience, those with promise and those for whom the sport was proving tricky initially. Boys progressed between the groups as their skills developed so that everyone felt comfortable at their level. After a number of weeks, we progressed to competitive matches for the top two groups with the third group being offered the chance to play if they were keen. We played competitive fixtures home and away against Campbell College, Methodist College, Wallace High School, Regent House, Bangor Grammar School and Belfast Royal Academy.
